About being rebellious

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. –Romans 12:2-3 (NIV)

17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. –2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)

Being a Christian is the most radical and rebellious thing you could ever do.

For a long time, I could not come to terms with being a Christian or identify myself to be one. I didn’t want to conform to those silly rituals and seemingly lose my freedom. To me, being good means being boring.

But how I have been wrong all these years!

The world is like a jungle, it’s messy. It confuses you and tricks you into thinking that there’s no right or wrong but only what ‘feels right/good’. YOLO (You Only Live Once) is what the world preaches to you; it means doing things without consequences. So you conform to it and go on to do what you want or at least what you think you want. That’s the easy way of living. It’s near-sighted.

Saying yes to drinking and taking drugs with your friends is easier than saying no if everyone is doing it. Having casual sex with people is easier than waiting for the one and only whom you could truly share your love and passion with. Spending time and money on yourself or the ones you choose to love, is easier than spending it on other people in need, especially the ones you don’t really like. It is also easier to fight back and argue than to strive for peace and hold our tongues.

But the word of God is like a mirror, it reveals to you who you truly are. Who are you? How would you define yourself? Why do you do what you do?

Being a Christian means going against the current. It’s tough, it’s radical and it’s exciting!  It means you don’t do what the world tells you to. Not only that, sometimes you do what the world tells you not to! It’s the most rebellious thing I could ever imagine doing and being.

And it feels GOOD!
